Highly Sensitive People are super-sensitive to Caffeine!
Highly Sensitive People can suffer from anxiety and a racing heart when drinking just one cup of coffee.
Why is this? And why can other people get away with drinking multiple cups a day?

Yes……..I am having trouble addressing my coffee love, verses how it makes me feel. It makes me feel worse. Energy drinks I do not do. Time for me to give it up since Iam working so hard to get better……….I mean it’s ridiculous how I have let this go on for so long, just because i enjoy coffee.
Dude almost every time I have coffee in the morning I literally go into this mode where anything will send me into some kind of spaz attack were I’m ultra focused can’t sit still and everything angers me which is sad because I absolutely adore the taste and smell of coffee 😰
I’ve heard of the book and the HSP term. You echo exactly what caffeine does to me. I also avoid sugar and alcohol. No choice.
Thanks for sharing this. Thank God I found this information. I’m now starting to change my diet. I started to eat pure, as much as possible non-processed foods. The results are great. I didn’t know there was a link before. But I would recommend this to every HSP out there. Anxiety, depressing feelings left just in a few days. It’s awesome!
drank a coffee around 1 this afternoon and it’s almost 1 am now and I can’t sleep. always happens to me get really anxious and wired. I hate it. keep forgetting how sensitive I am because I barley drink it anymore, then when I do its the same thing all over again. aaaahhh.
I drank very strong expresso, and faced a manic episode that everyone noticed, today. that was horrible
I am extremely sensitive to caffeine. I drank coffee before, but had to quit due to nervousness/anxiety/doing scary things in my sleep, amongst other things.
Yesterday, after a couple of years completely of caffeine, I drank one cup of earl gray tea, where I left the teabag soaking for only one minute, just to see if that is something I can do to get some energy.
Turns out, even that had an extreme effect on me throughout the night and the next day. I sleepwalked and did some weird stuff in my sleep, (In the morning I found that I had been to the bathroom and put my hair clipper, all the guards, and a scissor in the sink ).
To me its a serious drug. So its back to no caffeine for me!
Just found your channel, and I agree. As an hsp/INFJ, I can’t handle coffee/caffeine, or alcohol either. Keep making videos, it’s helpful, and good to know I’m not alone!
I cut my intake down to 1 cup a day last week before Christmas. Yesterday I had 3 cups and I am OFF MY FACE! It’s now 7am and I’m still not tired. I feel like I’ve taken speed. It doesn’t make me any more anxious than usual though. Just hyper wired!
hope you are making some more videos soon?
I wish there was a larger body of scientific research on HSPs. Normal people just assume most of the things we experience we simply make up or imagine. Caffeine sensitivity is one of them. Few people I’ve ever talked to believe me when I say that I simply can’t drink coffee because it can give me a panic attack. Obviously, same thing with energy drinks. When I was young and inexperienced in college I actually drank 2 expressos and a coffee in one morning (I was very groggy from a late night before) and ended up in the hospital with a pulse rate of 185. I have to drink tea and even then one is enough. Interestingly I can drink Red Bull without as many problems (though one is enough there too). Caffeine also usually stays in my system for a long time and if I drink too much it can take 12-18 hours or so for it to fully exit my system and for me to completely return to normal.
This describes me to a T! Problem is I have a very demanding grad school program and work, and feel sluggish and foggy often. Any ideas on alternatives (herbs etc.) that produce alertness and endurance without traditionally "stimulating" the body and mind and thus overloading HSPs?
Yeah, one cup of coffee has just thrown my whole day out, thanks for sharing, in a world where caffeine is the norm it can be difficult to accept that it just doesn’t work for some of us.
Oh man, I’m with you on this. Sometimes I can get away with one cup sometimes not, but anything more and I’m just wired and anxious. Tea is definitely the way to go for a nice warm drink.
drinking coffee makes me fall asleep. like my body skips straight to the crash phase. never had an energy drink but if i did, pretty sure it would kill me.
